Cardiac Check-Up and Prevention
Comprehensive care for your heart health, from preventive evaluation to specialized diagnosis.
The Importance of Prevention
A preventive cardiac check-up is the foundation of long-term heart health. Early detection of risk factors allows for effective intervention before more serious conditions develop.
At our practice (Nea Smyrni & Cholargos), a check-up is not a routine formality, it is a personalized approach tailored to your individual needs, medical history, and lifestyle.
What Does a Cardiac Check-Up Include?
A comprehensive clinical assessment involves the following steps:
- Medical history: We discuss your symptoms, habits, and family history of cardiovascular disease
- Clinical examination: Includes auscultation of the heart and lungs, as well as blood pressure measurement
- Electrocardiogram (ECG): The baseline examination for assessing cardiac rhythm and detecting signs of ischemia or other abnormalities
- Care plan: Based on the findings, we determine whether further investigation is needed (e.g. Triplex or Holter)
When Should You Schedule Your Visit?
Prevention is always preferable to treatment. A check-up is indicated when:
- You want an annual preventive evaluation for early detection of risk factors
- You are experiencing symptoms such as dyspnea (shortness of breath), chest pain, palpitations, or unusual fatigue
- You need a pre-sports evaluation or health clearance for athletic activities
- A family history or other risk factors are present (smoking, elevated cholesterol, hypertension)
Does Specialization Matter in Diagnosis?
As an interventional cardiologist and department director at Metropolitan General, Dr. Thanos Kolyviras evaluates your check-up results with full knowledge of the most current treatment options available. This ensures that if the evaluation reveals a condition requiring intervention, such as valvular disease or coronary artery disease, you will immediately receive expert guidance on the percutaneous procedures available to you.
