Procedures:
Modern Interventional Cardiology

In the context of contemporary cardiology, percutaneous cardiac interventions allow serious conditions to be treated in a minimally traumatic manner. Dr. Thanos Kolyviras, Director of the 4th Cardiology Department at Metropolitan General, specializes across the full spectrum of interventional cardiology, adhering to rigorous international safety standards.

Coronary Artery Disease Management

Timely and precise intervention in the heart's arteries is critical for both the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction.

Coronary Angiograph

The most reliable method for imaging the coronary arteries. Performed via a thin catheter, typically through the wrist (radial access), allowing the patient to return home the same day.

Angioplasty (Stent):

Restoration of blood flow through the implantation of modern drug-eluting stents. We use cutting-edge technologies including IVUS for intravascular imaging and Shockwave lithotripsy and Rotablator for optimal management of heavily calcified lesions.

Advanced Percutaneous Cardiac Interventions

Beyond the coronary arteries, interventional cardiology now offers solutions for valvular and structural cardiac conditions — without the need for surgery.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

The most advanced technique for aortic valve replacement via catheter, avoiding open-heart surgery.

Mitral Valve Repair (MitraClip):

A percutaneous technique for the treatment of mitral valve regurgitation, targeting immediate symptom relief.

Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) or Atrial Septal Defect Closure:

Implantation of a specialized closure device ("umbrella") to seal openings in the heart wall — an intervention frequently required for stroke prevention in younger patients.

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Including left main disease, three-vessel disease, bifurcation lesions, and chronic total occlusions.

Complex High-Risk Interventions

The Advantage of Specialization

Every procedure is performed in the state-of-the-art facilities of Metropolitan General, following a patient-centered approach built on three pillars:

Minimally Invasive Techniques

The use of catheters and advanced imaging systems allows procedures to be performed with the least possible burden on the body. This translates into shorter hospital stays and a faster return to everyday activities.

Individualized Treatment Plan

There are no "standardized" solutions. The decision for each procedure is made following thorough evaluation, based on the most stringent international medical protocols, and fully adapted to each patient's medical history and individual needs.

Continuous Personal Care

Dr. Kolyviras personally guides the patient throughout the entire journey: from initial diagnosis at the practice and procedural planning, through to successful execution at the hospital and post-procedural follow-up.
